When I met my teacher, he was clearly the man I needed to meet. By reading his words, I knew something had resonated within me. I contacted him and arranged to meet him. When I was in his presence, I could clearly feel the truth, the space he held was very different, lighter, faster and I could feel my space changing when I was with him. The awakening I had with him made me radiate for weeks. It was clearly noticeable that I was different from meeting him.
What I loved about his teaching was that he told me to find the truth in myself. You don't need a guru, you don't need to worship anyone, that just leads to ego attachment. Realise that he was me and that he just remembered more. If I practice the simple tools he gave me, I would need nothing else but faith. Because the inner recognition was loud enough, I began to listen, I knew it was worth trying. He ran an ashram, he had followers and devotes and I never understood how what he said and how he seemed to live were so different. He would say that the ways of the east are different from the ways of the west and some people loved the mystical worship aspect which was his heritage. I heard him say in his talks that the truth was within you, 100's of different ways and yet people felt the need to attach to HIM as a person. I took his teaching and it worked, it was his message that was important to me, not so much getting him to like me or wanting to be his follower. He used to say a spiritual teacher doesn't care about your life situation, they only want you to remember who you are and join them in that eternal space, they want you to be free. If you do this, all of the life situations that gripped you so tightly and gave you such suffering will not matter. What is better than that? he would ask me. I am eternally grateful to him, for his message changed my life, even though now, he has fallen from grace. Sex and Power, seems to be a lethal combination for those attracted to it. There is a major sex scandal at his ashram. It seems to happen to so many people who are susceptible to the lure of power. In saying this, it was his message that changed my life, it was his showing me the way that brought me the peace and joy that I am now. I don't judge him for any of this, I have compassion for his devotees who were engaged with him but I can separate the messenger from the message or the behaviour from the person. For me, it was never about him as a person but more about how he showed me the truth of who I was. It's obvious by our celebrity obsession whether it be music, business, sport, movies, health etc that our egos love to attach to others. To those that have more, be more, know more, do more etc. People aspire to be more like someone famous, dress like, talk like, etc. We all seem very willing sometimes to give over our power to someone who appears to know more. In the spiritual world there are so many spiritual egos. Its so very easy to create an ego "being spiritual". If I could find another term to describe what I do, I would use it as the term spiritual has as many misrepresentations as the word god or religion. Spiritual ego is everywhere. The teachers that have made a big impact on me over the years, apart from my initial teacher were unassuming, everyday sort of people, no glitz, no glamour and no interest in making the teachings into a business. For some of them it has happened organically but there was no ego driven agenda. They don't have a reason, they are just being and what they do comes from that place. Teaching a spiritual truth is no different from making a cup of tea, doing the washing or being with friends, its just what happens in that space. It is just how it is to be. I have been helping people find truth for many years. When I started teaching on line, I was approached many times by people wanting to give me "marketing" advice. I was told to be more personable. Be someone people can relate to. I needed more pizazz to get people to listen to "my" message. I understand why they were telling me this and I realise the good intention behind it but, it is not a spiritual teachers role to create an image to attract egos. The pure purpose of teachings is to give you tools to use yourself, not to give you someone to attach to. All that is required of a spiritual teacher who has realised for themselves is to point you back there, to show you the way. If one person finds a spark of truth within themselves and follows it, then that's one person who will remember and be free. The information is out if you want to find it. The tools are available if you want to use them. It's fine if you don't but if you do, they are there. A spiritual teacher doesn't really care if you like "them" or not. Its not about how to win friends and influence people. Its definitely not about appealing to your ego. A realised teacher is someone who already loves you and knows exactly who you are. They realise you have forgotten and are willing to help you find yourself again. There is a part of you that is timeless and already know the truth. Teachers speak to that part of you, helping it to grow and be heard. If they appeal to your ego then they are working against the truth. A spiritual teacher, who ever that person is for you radiates a different field, a different feel. Trust your instincts. Listen to who you resonate with and who helps you move out of fear and into truth. The truth of who you are is very simple. Navigating the way requires trust in yourself and possibly guidance from someone who has already travelled the road you are on. It doesn't require you to take up new beliefs, it requires you to empty out and become who you really are. Most importantly, breath and be here NOW! Thanks for reading!
