In the last post, we looked at the two main states of experience, contraction and expansion and we explored the difference.
The question that arises from that is how to we move from contraction to expansion?
When you are in contraction, how can we tell what is a thought derived feeling and what is guidance from Self?
Well, the truth lies in the feeling.
In my experience, the communication is different. Sometimes, in the beginning very subtle but if you are aware, you can feel the difference.
So the basic answer is, if it comes from thought, the mind, it comes with a limited feeling or no feeling. Usually contraction but sometimes it can mask itself as a "good feeling". I explained this a little in the last post. If we don't explore our feelings, we can allow our minds to label the feeling as "good" if it doesn't feel good.
Another example is this one. Years ago I was feeling excited about an event that was happening that night. Excitement has always brought about "thoughts" of good times, anticipation and fun. When I sat with the feeling, although on the surface it felt a little joyful, underneath there was much more of an unpleasant feeling. It was unsettled, slightly nauseous and definitely not an expanded feeling. I had allowed my mind to mask this feeling over the years but on closer inspection, I definitely felt out of alignment and contracted.
My mind was telling me that anticipation and excitement was a good thing. My experience was different. It told me that I was out of alignment with what is. I was projecting into the future rather than being with what is. I was setting up expectation and desire rather than surrendering to the task at hand and allowing what was to come to present itself when it was ready. There was underlying fear masked as a "good" feeling.
There is a real difference between knowing something intellectually and knowing it as a truth that you have experienced.
You just know. We have all had that feeling at some point in our lives, we just knew it was true even though it went against our logic or the evidence in front of us.
We just know.
The language of the universe is in the felt sense and again, in its most simple form it is expansion or contraction.
You can read about what an apple tastes like, you can look at pictures of what it looks like inside, read descriptions of its flavour, but until you actually taste the apple for yourself, it is just intellectual knowing. Once you have tasted the apple, there is a much more expanded understanding of the apple, on a felt sense. There is an experiential knowing.
The difference between your mind telling you something and your self, or the universal language is on the felt sense, the knowing. Sometimes it is subtle and sometimes it is louder but the difference is where the information comes from.
If you can't tell the difference then wait. If you can't tell the difference explore the options on a felt sense, go beyond the surface.
If you don't know, it is always ok. You can't know until you do, so just sit in not knowing and be ok with it. Surrender and accept the situation of not knowing. Create the space for the truth to present itself, rather than pushing and searching. When you know, then you know, until then, you don't know.
There are no mistakes. We are where we are meant to be. We experienced what we have done exactly as we were meant to.
It can't be any different to how it is now in this moment.
It can bring us a closer understanding of which system to follow.
Follow the expansion, the uplifting feeling, contemplate the feelings, even when the mind tells you not to.
It's your own system you are exploring. Go into your uncharted territory, be an explorer of your own inner world. Don't be afraid of what you find, go deeper. There is nothing there that we haven't put there ourselves in a state of running or denial. Be with it, it will set you free.
It will change your experience of the outer world and bring you closer to the truth of who you really are.
Start where you are now.
